The first two guest rooms, The Clover and The Derby, are located above the original stone storehouse built on the property in 1805.

At the end of the hall toward the front of the building and to the left, you will find the third suite, The Julep. This room occupies the second floor of the second structure built on lot 41, a two-story log structure that was originally

built as a side entrance retail shop in the 1820's.

Across the hall from The Julep is The Commons, a comfortably furnished room where guests can gather to socialize and relax at the end of fun filled days full of area equestrian events, wine tasting, antique hunting, and local fine dining.

Staying in The Rooms Up There is like staying in a friend's beautiful home that has an amazing interior design store downstairs, so if you suddenly have a longing for big, fluffy towels, or a sterling silver tray, or a small Turkish carpet, or a tiny brass snail you can just run downstairs and get it. This place is really great - pretty, homey, and so comfortable (especially the bed and the big, fluffy towels). In addition to three well-appointed guest rooms, upstairs features a lovely, little parlor with board games, beverages and snacks - a perfect place for relaxing. There is no TV, but that turned out to be one of the wonderful things about my stay! I loved this place!

We had an amazing time during our stay at the Rooms Up There. The accommodations were incredible everything from the furnishings, to soaps and lotions to the linens and bedding had a refinement that are hard to beat. The inn sits right in the heart of the small town of Marshall. We were able to walk to our wine dinner one evening at Field & Main, which was delicious. The inn has a room for lounging or reading that is always stocked with complimentary coffee, tea, water, sodas and snacks. For each night of your stay you're provided a card that gets you breakfast at the Red Truck Bakery, just a short walk down the street. I highly recommend the inn for your stay in wine country!

My husband and I decided to do a little wine country getaway last weekend and stayed at The Rooms Up There. A couple days before my arrival I received an email stating that I could have a complimentary upgrade if I wanted. I just needed to reply letting them know. That set the tone for a great weekend. The room looked exactly like the pictures and everything was clean and inviting. There were lots of free snacks and drinks. The complimentary Red Truck Bakery breakfast is worth the trip by itself. We'll definitely return. The location is fantastic for visiting dozens of wineries in the area as well.

We recently booked a room here for a weekend wine getaway and absolutely loved it! Our room was upgraded because no one else booked that weekend, and the room was absolutely lovely. Comfortable bed, perfectly decorated, and I especially loved the snacks and water available in the room and common area. We ended up getting engaged on this trip and everything about the weekend was absolutely perfect! We will definitely be back!

...Your place was absolutely lovely and just what I needed! I loved the cozy, relaxed atmosphere, the bed was SO comfortable, the bathroom and shower spacious, and the community snack/coffee area was wonderful. I hope to return next year!

This was such a lovely find!! We were lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves over the Thanksgiving holiday. It's exactly the home we would have created away from home. Every detail is thoughtfully perfect. An incredible and unexpected place that we can't wait to visit again soon.

If you are coming to Marshall, VA or nearby Middleburg, VA, this is the place to stay. Very comfortable, elegantly appointed and quiet, a tranquil oasis from the stress of DC Metro.

Beautiful, cozy and relaxing! Loved every minute staying there. Relaxed in our room all day. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Love their partnership with Red Truck Bakery!

Thank you for a most decadent night's sleep. All we wanted...was to dive under a duvet, and boy did this place deliver! We will be patting ourselves on the back for weeks to come that we found this little gem online - and the angels for making it available!

We meet some friends at Field & Main for an awesome wine dinner and decided to stay nearby for the night. We found The Rooms Up There a block away! Dan has a design business downstairs and renovated three rooms upstairs in the 1805 building. We were in the Counting Room on the front of the house which was lovely. There is a common room as well that had coffee, soda, water and some snacks. He also included a light breakfast at a wonderful bakery five minutes walk up the street. This room did have some road nose in the morning but the real problem was some workers for another business that showed up early. Their drilling was an unwelcome alarm clock. That said, when Dan found out, he fully refunded our fee. We plan to visit the area more and will definitely stay there again.

Lovely and comfortable accommodation with thought to every detail one might need. The common area was so nice to include beverages, snacks and even a mini table top ice maker for guests to use. This area had a fireplace filled with candles and was so nicely decorated that we enjoyed just hanging out there together for our anniversary celebration weekend. I loved that the alarm clock next to the bed had an outlet for tablet/phone charging built it. Bath products provided were definitely higher end and appealed to both male and female guests. Clean, spacious bath with thick towels. We even enjoyed the outdoor court yard with a sitting area since the weather was so good. Pastry and coffee coupon for the Red Truck Bakery was great - didn’t know about this famous bakery that would put Martha Stewart to shame! Can you tell we really like The Rooms Up There??!!

Thank you so much! The room (& breakfast) was perfect! Absolutely loved all the linens & the comforter was fantastic.

Wife and I spent our anniversary weekend here to get away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives Could not be more happy with our decision. The accommodations were great: nice rooms, big bed, very private, comfortable atmosphere, and something different than the norm. Really cool to see how the place has been transformed. The breakfast vouchers to Red Truck are amazing, the local bakery has some of the best goods we've had (try the Farmhouse muffin, you won't be disappointed.) The common room was stocked with snacks and coffee, and was a very inviting place to relax! You won't be disappointed if you book this place!

So amazing! Great area recommendations by Daniel. The room was so cute and clean.
Cori October 9th, 2017
Lovely very stylish and very upscale room. The bath products included "Joy" hand soap. The common room was very comfortable and included nice snacks and drinks. We were attending an event at the Barrel Oak Winery and from Marshall it was just an $8 Uber ride there. No worries about drinking too much. Breakfast was at the local bakery which is wonderful. We ended up buying treats to take home. Hope to return sometime and check out more of Marshall. This is a different experience than most B&Bs. We saw no people but check-in and check-out was easy. Also there is not a TV on the property. There is WiFi so bring your computer if you need to check your sports team!
Sue Alexandria, VA October 2nd, 2017
The room and the common area are very beautiful. Everything was tasteful and very upscale. There is liquid "Joy" soap in the bathroom. The snacks in the Common Room are a nice touch. We were attending an event at the Barrel Oak Winery and we had a short $8 Uber ride to get there. Also the breakfast at the nearby bakery was delicious. Everything was so tempting we just had to buy treats to take home. Hope to get back and stay longer.v

I took my wife for a winery tour for her birthday. We usually avoid Bed and Breakfasts because so many are typically Victorian and poorly decorated. Not the case here! The room was beautiful, well apointed and just what we wanted! Short drive to tons of wineries and walking distance to a great restaurant! Highly recommend The Rooms Up There!
September 30th, 2017
Thanks for the accommodation, was great. My only suggestion would be for a TV in the Commons room, but I understand why you don't have it.
August 23rd, 2017
Thank you for your hospitality! We loved the entire "silent" innkeeper concept. Everything was perfect!
August 4th, 2017
The rooms are stunning and private. I felt like I was in a European inn, only with larger beds. I never wanted to leave and hope to return. A great place for a romantic getaway in the country.
Kathy June 29th, 2017
The rooms are so beautiful. The amenities make the visit along with the decor. And the local wineries are wonderful to visit. A perfect weekend in the country.
Karen May 27th, 2017
Absolutely lovely. Cannot wait to visit again. The aesthetics are incredible! A stylish, comfortable and unique experience! Would recommend to anyone who will be in the area, stop by and stay a night or three here!

I was searching for special overnight accommodations and finally found "The Rooms Up There" that were going to be opening in a few weeks. I waited and was rewarded! What a treat. History, simplicity, thoughtful design, location and a perfect quick get away from Washington, DC. We met Dan, the owner, who verbally guided us through his property, much of the area and offered a terrific conversation in their living room; we knew that he wanted our stay to be as grand as we hoped it to be. It was a pleasure to tuck-in such a fun place. Yes, I want to visit again and I have suggested to my friends that it is a perfect spot. (I know this sounds too good to be true; try it and you will see it is just right!)

Great place to stay! The accommodations were just as luxurious as described and even better than many upscale hotels I have stayed at. The inn has a common room with complimentary coffee, tea, water, sodas and snacks. For breakfast, each guest is provided a card that gets you breakfast (coffee, pastry, breakfast sandwich, juice, etc) at the amazing Red Truck Bakery, just a block down the street. The inn sits right in the middle of the small town of Marshall and is walking distance to great restaurants like Field & Main. I highly recommend The Rooms Up There for anyone visiting this area! -April 11th, 2019
